Stephen Craigan has lauded Rangers trio Josh McPake, Kai Kennedy and Dapo Mebude for their performances for the Youth team recently.

But the BT Sport pundit questioned whether the highly-rated youngsters have a pathway into Steven Gerrard’s team given the players they are set to sign in the summer.

As reported by BBC Sport, the Gers are set to sign Motherwell winger Jake Hastie when the transfer window re-opens in the summer in a pre-contract agreement. Added with that, as reported by Sky Sports in January, the Ibrox club are also set to see Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones walk through the doors in the summer.

Speaking to BT Sport, as posted on their official Twitter account, Craigan spoke about the Rangers youngsters that impressed during their Youth Cup final win over Celtic.

“He [Josh McPake] was probably Rangers’ best player,” Craigan told BT Sport. “I think Dembele was Celtic’s best player. Kai Kennedy was another one [that played well]. Mebude, wide on the right, he had good pace.

“But those young players must look at the likes of Jake Hastie and Jordan Jones signing for Rangers and they must think, ‘where is my pathway?'”.

On the one hand, the supporters will no doubt want their youngsters to come through, but on the other hand, they will want success, which means winning trophies.

If Gerrard can add ready-made players to his squad who can push him closer to a trophy then there is no doubt that he will do that, but equally, he will want to think about the future of the club.

Nonetheless, a big summer awaits for Gerrard and his players because they will be hoping to close the gap on their Old Firm rivals Celtic next term.
