Stephan Craigan has said on BT Sport that Glen Kamara will not play for Rangers this season.

Rangers brought the 23-year-old midfielder to Ibrox on deadline day, five months ahead of schedule for around £45,000 [The Daily Record] after originally signing a pre-contract agreement to join this summer.

Gers boss Steven Gerrard already has an abundance of central midfielders, and will get another one soon as Graham Dorrans continues his comeback from injury.

Asked by Chris Sutton on BT Sport whether Kamara will make his debut this season, Craigan said: “No he won’t. Not between now and the end of the season, I would have thought.

“I think what Kamara will be between now and the end of the season is get up speed, see what the standards are like, what capabilities he has, what it’s like to play at Ibrox.”

It’s a big claim by Craigan and one that many Rangers fans won’t necessarily like.

Supporters of every club want to see what their money has bought and some fans might be disappointed if Gerrard doesn’t play the former Arsenal youth in this afternoon’s visit of St Mirren.

Next season, it’ll be interesting to see him compete with Greg Docherty, the on-loan midfielder who has been playing, and thriving, in a very advanced role for Shrewsbury Town down South.

All in all, Kamara should certainly add another dimension to Rangers’ creativity from midfield, something that has been lacking this season following the sale of Josh Windass last August.
