Stephen Craigan believes Steven Davis would be a “super signing” for Rangers, having watched the Ibrox-linked midfielder in action for his country last month.

The 33-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Southampton – his employers since leaving Ibrox in 2012 – and has only played 220 minutes of football this season.

“If Rangers can get him in, I know he’s 33 but Steve’s as fit as a fiddle – super signing.”

Gerrard has seen his midfield depleted by the early return to Liverpool of Ovie Ejaria.

Given his history with Rangers, Davis would be a popular replacement for many of a Gers persuasion – although some have called for the return of Greg Docherty, who has impressed while on loan to Shrewsbury Town.
