Rangers have been without a manager for more than two weeks, after Pedro Caixinha left Ibrox.
BT Sport pundit Stephen Craigan has delivered his verdict on Rangers’ manager search update.
Rangers sacked Pedro Caixinha more than two weeks ago, but confirmed in a statement on their official website on Friday that despite receiving numerous applications they are yet to interview any potential candidates – including the hotly-tipped Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes.
And the wait looks set to go on for at least another week, with the Gers adding they anticipate further applications by then.
Reacting to the news on Twitter, Craigan – a former Motherwell player and caretaker known for his on-air quarrels with Rangers critic Chris Sutton – posted: “So the huge push from ex players and some journalists for McInnes to be the next manager may not be going to plan Interesting”.
Rangers would have to pay around £750,000 to prise McInnes away from Aberdeen, according to the Scottish Sun.
And the tabloid reported earlier this week that the Gers are therefore reluctant to move for their former midfielder.
Meanwhile, the Herald reported on Friday that the former England and Newcastle United manager Steve McClaren has applied for the Ibrox post.
