Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have been without a manager for almost a month.
Stephen Craigan has told BT Sport that he does not believe Rangers will wind up hiring Derek McInnes.
Pedro Caixinha’s seven-month stint as Rangers boss was ended three weeks ago after being axed by the Ibrox club following a 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock.
The Aberdeen manager is favourite to succeed the controversial Portuguese, though he is also among the bookmakers’ favourites to replace Tony Pulis at West Brom after his dismissal this morning.
McInnes has been linked with Rangers since Caixinha went and Craigan feels as if the longer it goes without him being appointed, the less likely it is that he will get the job.
“Derek McInnes seemed to be the choice of many pundits and media alike for the managerial post but the longer it goes the less likely it seems they will get their wish,” he told BT Sport.
“Whether it’s down to finances or the fact they simply don’t fancy McInnes is up for debate but whatever it may be they need an inspirational appointment and they need it soon.”
McInnes would be an outstanding signing and you need only consider the good work he has done at Pittodrie to realise his talents a manager.
But Craigan is probably right in the sense that if the appointment hasn’t happened yet, it may never happen.
The Gers are fourth in the Premiership, three points adrift of McInnes’s Aberdeen.
