Stephen Craigan has questioned on BT Sport whether the proposed double swoop of Jack Hendry and Lewis Morgan would excite Celtic fans next month.

The Daily Mail reported last Wednesday that Celtic had “stepped up their efforts” to sign Dundee defender Hendry and St Mirren midfielder Morgan in January.

They were both at Parkhead in midweek to watch the Hoops seal their progression into the Europa League despite losing their last Champions League game to Anderlecht.

Hendry, 22, has impressed with Dundee in the Premiership this season, while 21-year-old Morgan is enjoying an excellent season with the Saints playmaker in the Championship, netting six times.

And although Craigan believes that both are adquate signings for Celtic as far as their domestic aspirations go, the BT Sport pundit feels that signing the young pair would underwhelm fans of the Parkhead side.

“I think for domestic football, fine, but to move the club forward in the direction the supporters demand, I’m not too sure they would be two stellar signings the fans would jump up and say we’ve signed Jack Hendry and Lewis Morgan”, he said on BT Sports at the weekend.

Craigan is probably right. Celtic’s European campaign this season has proved that in order to make progress on the continent, better players are needed and it’s unlikely that Morgan and Hendry are accomplished enough in their careers to take Brendan Rodgers’s side to the next level.
