Aston Villa reportedly tried twice to bring Angers’ Ligue 1 striker Bahoken to the Championship.
Aston Villa appear to have spent much of the last 12 months attempting to lure Stephane Bahoken to the Midlands.
Sport.sfr reported in January 2018 that Aston Villa wanted to sign the Ligue 1 forward and, after failing, RMC claim that they revisited their interest in the summer. The 1982 European Cup winners apparently offered Bahoken a contract after his deal with Strasbourg expired.
The Cameroon international swapped Strasbourg for Angers instead, however, and has since set about showing Villa what they are missing.
It has been a fine season so far for Angers, who are sitting 12th in the table and 11 points clear of the relegation play-off place. And Bakoken is in the form of his life, matching his best Ligue 1 tally of seven goals with three months of the season left to play.
In short, the one-time St Mirren loanee has been the star man of an Angers team who are punching well above their weight.
Now, Aston Villa might have one prolific striker right now in Tammy Abraham but with Jonathan Kodjia a shadow of his former self, Scott Hogan at Sheffield United on loan and Keinan Davies and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy struggling with injuries, Bahoken could have been a fine signing on a free.
