Midland and Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly keen on Bahoken, as are Leicester City.

If Stephane Bahoken was annoyed at being left out of the starting XI for Cameroon’s African Cup of Nations clash against Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday, he certainly didn’t show it.

Christian Bassogog, Eric-Maxim Choupo-Moting and Karl-Toko Ekambi were chosen together in a fluid front three by the Indomitable Lions boss Clarence Seedorf but, with just over 20 minutes remaining, this group stage clash was still in the balance.

Until Bahoken came off the bench that is.

The one-time St Mirren striker enjoyed arguably the finest season of his career in 2018/19, netting 11 Ligue 1 goals for Angers. And he has now taken his club form onto the international scene.

After all, there were just two minutes between Bahoken coming on and Bahoken putting the ball into the back of the net. A well-taken reflex finish on the volley made even more impressive by the fact that it was the 27-year-old’s first touch.

It is these sort of predatory instincts which show why the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers, Leicester City and Aston Villa are keen to give him a chance in the Premier League, as reported by L’Equipe and The Mirror (28 May, page 68) respectively.

Bahoken will cost around £8.5 million, but if he makes this kind of impact every time he comes on, the Premier League could have a new super-sub.
