Speaking on the Webby & O’Neill YouTube channel, Paul Scholes has openly spoken about Jose Mourinho and the job he’s doing at Tottenham.
The former Manchester United midfielder claims that the gaffer is being judged unfairly, claiming that Spurs’ limit is a top four finish and a domestic trophy, something Mourinho can still achieve this season.
“It’s Tottenham. What do you expect? Finish top four is the best they can do, winning an FA Cup or a League Cup? I don’t think you can do much more,” Scholes said.
The midfielder then went on to speak about some of the players at Spurs, before returning to speak about Mourinho, claiming that he’s at a different level to where he used to be.
“Listen. He’s a winner, he’s been a proven winner over the years, but with the job and what happened at United which wasn’t great. He’s had to step down a bit to Spurs and he’s at a different level now, and a different level of expectation. You ask Spurs fans and they’re expecting to win the league, win this, win that and win everything, but it’s just not realistic.”

This is an interesting point.
We talk all the time about players declining in football, but managers are rarely placed under the same level of scrutiny.
When you look at Mourinho’s last three jobs, it’s hard to believe that he was once a treble-winning boss at Inter Milan or a man who guided Porto to a Champions League triumph.
Of course, his reputation precedes him and his CV is unparalleled, but the last five years have shown that he’s not quite at the level he used to be.
