Tim Sherwood has brilliantly claimed that rumours of Real Madrid seemingly wanting to sign Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United would be a ‘step down’ for the player, as he told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (23/04/22 at 2:30 pm).

The former Premier League winner added that Guimarães makes the game look ‘very easy’ and he is a player that is ‘enjoying’ his time at Newcastle.

The January transfer signing wasn’t thrown straight into the starting XI when he first joined the club from Lyon.

Eddie Howe used him off the bench on a number of occasions, but ever since the Brazil star has been unleashed, he has been amazing and he is already a fan favourite.

That has been proven by his recent performances – three goals and one assist from his last three matches.

Nonetheless, this is what Sherwood had to say about Guimarães and the impact he has had on Tyneside.

“Well, the first five games, he didn’t play, did he?” said Sherwood. “He was a slow-burner, but he has caught alight now.

“Outstanding. He finds the game very easy. He’s good in tight areas. Knows when to get himself into the box and put himself into dangerous areas to score goals.

“Players with his ability. His touch is second to none. I think he reads the game very well and he has an appreciation of the players around him. I think he’s a top signing for them. And Eddie (Howe) has played it perfectly.

“I don’t think he wants to take a step down from Real Madrid, I really don’t. I think he wants to continue at Newcastle. He looks like he is enjoying it. He was told it was just outside of north London. And he is slowly realising it’s not. But the passion of them fans is second to none and he is going to enjoy his time there.”

Spanish outlet AS have reported that Real Madrid are keen on bringing Guimarães to the Bernabeu.

With the money on show at St James’ Park now, it’s going to be pretty easy for those in the boardroom to turn down any offer for the player.

That hasn’t happened yet, and in truth, it’s probably just the Spanish giants admiring the midfielder from afar.

Either way, given that the all-action midfielder has just joined the club, it would be a big surprise if he left so early.
