Tottenham Hotspur managed to win the race for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg over the summer, and he has become an instant favourite.

The Dane was lured from Southampton in a deal that also saw Kyle Walker-Peters head to the South Coast on a permanent basis, with Spurs beating Everton to his signature.

Hojbjerg has become one of Jose Mourinho’s key players at Tottenham, emerging as one of his most trusted lieutenants on the pitch.

Hojbjerg has played every minute of Premier League action this season, picking up a goal and three assists from a holding midfield role.

On Sunday, Hojbjerg threaded a superb pass for Harry Kane to score against West Bromwich Albion, and he has now earned praise from a former Spurs ace.

Steffen Freund was a Tottenham favourite in his playing days, and then returned to the club in 2012, operating as assistant boss at White Hart Lane.

The German no doubt knows all about Hojbjerg given that he emerged with Bayern Munich, and he has now told Tottenham’s official website that he has been ‘really impressed’ with Hojbjerg.

Freund believes that Hojbjerg has ‘improved so much’ already at Tottenham, hailing his attitude and will to win in the Spurs engine room.

“I love to see his quality,” said Steffen. “He’s improved so much without the ball and works so hard, and that’s why the supporters love him, it’s just a pity they are not there in the stadium to see his performances and to be able to show that appreciation.”

“The Premier League is perfect for him. He has a fantastic attitude, works so hard and he will give everything to win, a little bit like me in the past! He spent four years at Southampton and now we see the best of him at Spurs, using all his experience. It’s great to see and he’s such an important player for Spurs. I’ve been really impressed with Pierre,” he added.
