The midfielder has one year left on his deal with the Scottish Premiership side.
Despite previously being heavily linked with leaving Celtic this summer, Stefan Johansen not only looks set to stay at Parkhead next season but may also agree a new deal with the Hoops, according to the Daily Record.
The Daily Mail reported in April that the 25-year-old was going to follow countryman and former manager Ronny Deila out of Glasgow rather than see out the final year of his existing deal.
However, Johansen has now suggested that he not only plans to stay after promising talks with Deila’s successor Brendan Rodgers, but may now sign an extension with the club.
“The manager gave me a positive impression. He was incredibly nice,” he told the Record.
“I’ve spoken to the club about a new contract but we didn’t get anywhere. We’ll talk about it again with the manager when I get back from holiday.”
With Rodgers having a considerable number of players to pick from in midfield, it is perhaps a surprise that Johansen has not been earmarked as one of the men that has been told that they can find a new club.
Though his first full season with the Bhoys was incredibly impressive – as he contributed nine goals in the Scottish Premiership – this past campaign has been much more underwhelming with just one league goal coming from 20 appearances.
However, Rodgers may be hoping that the boost of confidence that the Norwegian will receive from being told that he is wanted will help him rediscover his best form to help the side win their sixth league title in a row.
