Lazio defender Stefan de Vrij is set to leave this summer.

Stefan De Vrij of SS Lazio celebrates a opening goal with his team mates during the Serie A match between SS Lazio and ACF Fiorentina at Stadio Olimpico on November 26, 2017 in Rome, Italy.

Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare has been quoted by Football Italia as saying that he thinks defender Stefan de Vrij is on his way to Inter Milan.

De Vrij, 25, starred with Feyenoord having come up through the ranks with the Rotterdam club, and earned a move to Lazio in 2014 off the back of his displays for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Brazil.

The Dutch international has established himself as one of the most impressive centre backs in Europe during his time with Lazio, even with a knee injury halting his progress.

The problem for Lazio has been that De Vrij’s contract is expiring this summer, and with the defender refusing to sign a new deal, he is poised to move on.

Unfortunately for the Rome-based side, De Vrij looks set to join an Italian rival, as sporting director Igli Tare has been quoted by Football Italia as saying that he thinks the defender is on his way to Inter Milan.

Everton miss out

Recent reports from the Liverpool Echo suggested that Everton were interested in landing De Vrij, as director of football Steve Walsh was a huge fan of him and put his name forward to Sam Allardyce.

However, the Toffees look set to miss out, with Inter seemingly on the verge of raiding their rivals to secure De Vrij’s signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

On a free transfer, there aren’t many better centre backs available this summer, and Everton may well feel that they have missed out – but with question marks over the futures of both Allardyce and Walsh, it maybe shouldn’t be a huge surprise.
