David James has claimed that Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham ‘forever’ after Manchester City agreed to sign Erling Haaland, as he told the Football Show on Sky Sports.
Last summer, it was well-documented that Manchester City were interested in signing Kane.
But a transfer didn’t materialise, with Pep Guardiola now adding Haaland to the club’s ranks for £51 million (BBC Sport).
It was probably music to the ears of Tottenham fans when Man City knocked on Borussia Dortmund’s door for Haaland because it could have been oh so different.
When Kane is posting on Twitter, back in August, that he is ‘staying at Tottenham this summer’ after that drama around Man City.
Then it’s obvious that some would have been nervous heading into the forthcoming transfer window.
But they don’t need to feel that anymore, as ex-England goalkeeper James thinks Kane stays this summer, as well as Spurs securing fourth spot.
“You know Harry Kane is staying at Tottenham forever,” smiles James. “He’s a one-club man. That’s it.
“He’s not going anywhere. He might go and play in America when he is 33. But Harry’s staying at Tottenham because they are going to finish fourth.”
For the second time, and some fans still probably can’t believe their luck, Spurs have a trophy-laden coach in their dugout.
Daniel Levy opted to sack the last one a week before Tottenham’s League Cup final against Manchester City.
Antonio Conte has to be properly backed this summer because, with Kane leading the line, he can fire the club to anything.
Of course, added quality is going to be needed, but their Champions League fight with Arsenal will play a big part in that.
