Julien Laurens has urged Youssoufa Moukoko to ‘stay where you are’ amid transfer interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea.
The European football expert thinks Moukoko would benefit from staying at Borussia Dortmund because he will end up on the bench if he signs for either Liverpool or Chelsea.
The Borussia Dortmund forward is in high demand, and with less than 12 months left to run on his current contract, he could be headed for the exit door, sooner rather than later.
That’s either securing a transfer during the January transfer window, or the 18-year-old leaving for nothing next summer.
But Laurens feels his development is best served in Dortmund and that big move could yet come down the line in a few years, as he told ESPN.
“Yes, that’s right (on Moukoko not wanting to move just to sit on the bench),” said Laurens.
“I will expect him to do that (staying where he is). He was getting better. He scored a few good goals just before he went to the World Cup, where he went with Germany, of course.
“It would make so much sense. Youssoufa, if you are watching and listening, just stay where you are. This is good for your progression. You are going to work well. Edin Terzić likes you and you like him. It works.
“Why would you go right now to try and get that big contract?”
BIG MOVE WILL COME FOR MOUKOKO
In terms of development, Liverpool would be a great place to go because the Reds are more stable than Chelsea, for instance.
But as Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham have proven at Dortmund, staying at the German club is just as good.
Not only do they sell their rising stars when the moment is right, but they help elevate them up a few levels, regardless of what happens after.
And Moukoko should follow suit in that sense because his big-money move can come around when he is out of his teenage years.
