Barry Douglas has told Leeds United-owned Tyler Roberts on Instagram to ‘stay strong’ after injury ruled him out of making Wales’ 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The Leeds United forward, who is on-loan at Championship side QPR, picked up an injury away at Birmingham City last month and it has now cost him a place on football’s biggest stage.
It’s a crying shame for the 23-year-old because this is the first time Wales have reached the World Cup finals since 1958, so these opportunities are even more of a rarity for a nation such as theirs.
When Roberts shared the news on Instagram, he tried to remain positive by saying that ‘I know that it can still be possible in the future’.
In the comments of his IG post, the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Dan James, Adam Forshaw, Stuart Dallas and Ronaldo Vieria sent heart emojis, whilst former left-back Barry Douglas told him ‘stay strong partner’.
WALES, ENGLAND, IRAN AND USA
That’s some group, from a political sense and on the football stage. England will be the obvious favourites, but from then on, the rest will back themselves to progress.
USA and Wales have better players and a team than Iran, and in truth, if either one of them doesn’t progress then it will be seen as a failure.
If England do the unthinkable and don’t get out of the group stages, then it’s Iceland all over again, isn’t it?!
