Arsenal’s official Instagram account and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma have told Enock Mwepu to ‘stay strong’ after the Brighton and Hove Albion star was forced to retire at the age of 24.
Why has Enock Mwepu been forced to retire? Mwepu has been diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition and has had to step aside from taking to the pitch again.
Despite this crushing news for the midfielder, he made it clear that he plans to stay in football ‘at some capacity’ and how a little boy from a Zambian town called Chambishi has ‘lived his dream’, as he told Brighton’s official website.

Arsenal fans will remember Mwepu causing havoc against them last season when he scored a quite brilliant goal from the edge of the area, as well as providing an assist, as then-Graham Potter’s Brighton beat the Gunners 2-1 at the Emirates.
When the news of Mwepu’s retirement was announced, Arsenal posted in the comments section of the player’s IG post: “Stay strong, Enock. Best wishes for the future, from everyone at Arsenal.”
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and his former Brighton teammate, Bissouma also commented and added: “May God protect yourself, my brother. Stay strong.”
HEALTH BEFORE FOOTBALL
The only thing that matters now for Mwepu is his health and that is being put before anything else.
It’s a huge shame that he has had to end his career in this manner because he was showing so much promise for a Brighton team on the up.
There had been many success stories at the Amex Stadium, from Ben White to Bissouma, all of whom went on to secure moves to clubs in Europe, and there was a feeling that Mwepu could do the same.
But, at the end of the day, he has rightfully put his health before anything else, and whether it’s on the coaching field or even possibly the jam-packed world of punditry, there are many doors still open for the player.
