Patrick Roberts has suggested to The Scottish Sun that he plans to return to Manchester City when his loan deal at Celtic runs out at the end of the season.
Roberts joined Scottish Premiership giants Celtic on loan from Premier League giants City in February 2016.
The 19-year-old winger has suggested that he will return to the Citizens when the loan deal at Celtic Park runs out in the summer of 2017.
“I have never resigned myself to not making it there,” Roberts told The Scottish Sun regarding his future at City. “I never give up.
“I showed last season that I could compete with them in training and maybe that’s why I stayed there for a bit — because I did quite well.
“You obviously need to play games and you are not going to play many because there are so many top class players there, so that’s why I went out on loan.
“I never give up. I’ll go back there and show them what I can do. That’s the kind of person I am.”
Roberts is a very talented and promising young winger, and there is a reason why City signed him from Fulham in the summer of 2015.
As the England Under-20 international admits, it will be hard for him to break into Pep Guardiola’s team when he does return to the Etihad Stadium.
The youngster will have to be patient and will have to train hard, but his chance will come.
Guardiola has shown through his managerial career that he is open to giving young players chances.
However, Roberts’ comments could pose a problem for him at Celtic in the coming months.
With the youngster clearly stating his desire to return to City, does Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers have any major reason to play him regularly?
True, Roberts will come handy where there are injuries or loss in form of other players, but should Rodgers invest time in developing the youngster when he clearly wants to go back to City?
