Stats suggest Matt Jarvis deal would make sense for West Brom

West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for West Ham United winger Matt Jarvis, and he would bring an important quality to their ranks.

The Birmingham Mail reports that former Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Matt Jarvis has emerged as a January transfer target for their Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion.

The one-cap England international has seen his future called into question after slipping down the pecking order at West Ham United.

They invested heavily in him back in 2012, but have gradually reshaped their squad and left the 28-year-old behind.

He has been restricted to just a handful of appearances this season as a result, with the Hammers boss Sam Allardyce favouring other options.

Jarvis still has plenty to offer, though, as he has been one of the most prolific providers of crosses in Premier League competition over recent years.

That is a quality he could add to the ranks at West Brom, as the Opta statistics below help to highlight.

In terms of delivery, and despite seeing his outings severely limited this term, Jarvis boasts numbers which stand up well to those already on the books at The Hawthorns.

Only Chris Brunt can compete with him on the crossing front, as a natural winger on the Baggies’ books, and Stephane Sessegnon is the only man to top him when it comes to dribbles attempted.

It has to be noted that Brunt also favours a role on the left, which would place him as direct competition to Jarvis, but he could be shifted inside and would provide useful cover in other areas if Tony Pulis opts to take him out of the side completely.

West Brom certainly need someone to help Said Berahino shoulder the attacking burden and it could be that Jarvis would be a shrewd addition with plenty of points still to play for.
