Championship Premier League chasers Leeds United are reportedly considering a move to re-sign Aaron Lennon from Sean Dyche’s Clarets.

Aaron Lennon of Burnley arrives at the stadium prior to the Premier League match between Burnley and Southampton at Turf Moor on February 24, 2018 in Burnley, England.

Leeds United fans are understandably excited about the prospect of Aaron Lennon making an emotional return to Elland Road – 19 years after leaving for an exciting spell at Tottenham Hotspur.

According to The Sun, Leeds are already drawing up plans to lure Lennon back to West Yorkshire in the summer transfer window with Marcelo Bielsa making checks on the 31-year-old, who is currently playing Premier League football at Burnley.

Regardless of which division Leeds are in next season, a run of five defeats in seven games has highlighted a relative lack of creativity and pace in the final third with Jack Clarke inconsistent, Pablo Hernandez out of form and Jack Harrison once again flattering to deceive.

So it is tempting to think that Lennon, who remains remarkably quick off the mark at the age of 31, would make a huge impact at Elland Road.

But a quick glance at the stats suggest that he has fallen a long way from his peak years on the right wing at Spurs.

Since the start of the 2016/17 Premier League season, Lennon has scored just one goal and produced four assists in a total of 56 games. And it remains to be seen whether a player who relies on his explosive pace can stay at the top level over the next few years.

Maybe its time to think with your head rather than your heart.
