The midfielder has struggled to find his best form for Everton this season.
Eleven games into the Premier League season and things are going steadily at best for Everton.
After a strong start they have tailed off somewhat over recent months and Saturday’s 5-0 defeat to Chelsea showed there is still a lot of work to be done.
Ross Barkley has been their most talked about player so far, with fierce debate about his future in both club and international football.
Everton’s Ross Barkley
The midfielder has struggled to find his best form so far this season and he struggles to adapt to a new regime under Ronald Koeman.
For some, the 22-year-old has failed to improve and has actually regressed this season. So how do his stats compare to the same time last season?
| Season | Accurate Passes per Game | Successful Final Third Passes per Game | Key Passes per Game | Passing Accuracy | Won Contests per Game | Shots on Target per Game | Goals | Goal Assist | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ross Barkley | 2015-2016 | 44.82 | 16.55 | 1.91 | 87% | 2.73 | 1 | 3 | 3 | 11 | 989 |
| Ross Barkley | 2016-2017 | 34.9 | 15.4 | 2.5 | 84% | 0.7 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 10 | 833 |
Passing wise he has been worse, posting fewer accurate passes per game, 34 compared to 44 and fewer successful passes the final third, 15 compared to 16.
His overall passing accuracy has also fallen from 87% to 84%, although he is playing more key passes per game than last season.
Despite that increase, his number of assists has fallen, with him managing just one so far, compared to three at this stage last season.
Everton’s Ross Barkley
He has been considerably worse when it comes to dribbling, posting just 0.7 contests won per game compared to 2.7 last season.
His number of shots on target per game has stayed the same, although his goal tally has fallen from three to two.
It just goes to show how much Barkley has in fact struggled so far this season and Everton will be hoping there is a drastic turnaround in fortune to come for him after the international break.
