Stats show Philippe Coutinho’s remarkable improvement for Liverpool

The midfielder has been the key player for Liverpool this season.

Eleven games into the Premier League season it is fair to say things are going well for Liverpool.

They sit top of the table, a point clear of second-placed Chelsea and as the league’s top goalscorers.

One of their star performers has been Philippe Coutinho, whose five goals and five assists have got many believing he is finally set to become the elite level player many have predicted he could become.

And a look at the stats compared to the same period last season show just how remarkable the Brazilian has been for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

On a per game basis, he has posted more accurate passes, 43 compared to 33, more successful final third passes, 23 compared to 17 and more key passes 2.7 compared to one.

His overall passing accuracy has also been better, rising from 80% to 84% while his dribbling has been better, posting more won contests, 2.6 compared to 1.9.

He has also been more of a threat going forward, registering 1.5 shots on target per game compared to his score of 1.3 last season.

Those improvements have seen him score more goals, five compared to three and more assists, five compared to two.

It just goes to show how impressive Coutinho has been and Liverpool will be hoping there is more of the same to come as they eye a title challenge.
