Leeds kept their fifth clean sheet of the season in the league against the Brewers.

Following Leeds United’s victory over Burton Albion on Saturday, Garry Monk’s men are now ninth in the Championship and just one point adrift of a play-off spot.

With the Whites still the joint-lowest goalscorers in the top-half of the table – even after the 2-0 win at Elland Road – it is surely safe to say that the work the side has done defensively has been a key reason for their success.

The centre-back partnership between Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson continues to develop, and is beginning to look like the kind of pairing that could inspire Leeds even further up the table.

Bartley impressed against the Brewers, but it was the performance of the Sweden international that, once again it seems, deserves particular praise.

The 25-year-old was a colossus at the back, and was either the side’s leading performer in certain areas or was right in the mix.

The defender – who is on loan from Torino – made 11 clearances throughout the game, which is three more than his closest rival.

Meanwhile, no player in the team made more blocks than Jansson, while only Eunan O’Kane managed to contribute more accurate passes than the 34 Jansson made.

It is a similar story in terms of the amount of duels and interceptions he won, as only one player stood between him and top spot on both occasions.

While the clean sheet against Burton would have proved to Monk that Jansson and the rest of the back four did a tremendous job anyway, the fact that the stats are, once again, so impressive will confirm to him that getting the likes of Jansson and Bartley signed up permanently could be the most important pieces of business he does in the near future.
