Stats show Asmir Begovic is Premier League’s Manuel Neuer, Liverpool take note

The Stoke City goalkeeper has proven himself to be more than just a shot-stopper this term.

It has certainly not been a great season for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. The Belgian has found himself dropped by the Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers and is only back in the team at the moment because of an injury to back-up stopper Brad Jones.

With that in mind Liverpool need to bring in a new goalkeeper in January.

One area in which Liverpool goalkeepers need to be good is with the ball at their feet. This is certainly an area in which Mignolet has often struggled. Put it this way, he is no Manuel Neuer.

When you think of ball-playing goalkeepers in the Premier League you immediately think of David De Gea, Hugo Lloris, Tim Howard, perhaps Wojciech Szczesny.

Of course none of these are likely to be purchasable by Liverpool, considering they play for rival teams.

But It might come as a shock to you that in fact, the best ball-playing goalkeeper in the Premier League this season actually plays for … Stoke City!

Stoke have a reputation for playing an ugly game and under Tony Pulis that resonated in truth. Nowadays Mark Hughes is trying to change the way they play. It seems Begovic has certainly adapted to the changes.

So not only is Begovic the best passing goalkeeper in the Premier League but he is also the best ‘sweeper-keeper’ in the division, another area which Brendan Rodgers’ system would like his goalkeeper to help accommodate.

Who knew that the Premier League’s answer to Manuel Neuer was in fact keeping goal for Stoke.

Begovic is therefore the obvious choice for Liverpool if they choose to replace Simon Mignolet.
