Tottenham Hotspur have had an outstanding transfer window so far. Spurs look to be on the right path now after a shaky campaign last season, and yesterday’s performance at Old Trafford showed exactly that.
Jose Mourinho’s side hit six past David de Gea to record their biggest ever win against Manchester United. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane scored two each, while Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier also got on the score sheet.
Those four players will take all the plaudits for their performances yesterday. But a player who didn’t get a goal was arguably their man of the match.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had a fantastic day in the office for Spurs on Sunday. The Dane was signed from Southampton earlier this window for a fee in the region of just £15 million (Sky Sports).
The former Saints skipper had a shaky start to his Spurs career, but his display at Old Trafford yesterday was by far his best performance in a Tottenham shirt.
The Dane had 114 touches of the ball throughout the game and was brilliant with it. He maintained a stunning passing accuracy of 94%, which included two key passes and an assist. Hojbjerg successfully completed nine out of his 13 attempted long balls, which is a brilliant return (SofaScore).

Defensively as well, the Dane had a brilliant game. Hojbjerg made two tackles, three interceptions and a clearance. He lost the ball just seven times in the entire game and he only committed two fouls (SofaScore).
If SofaScore’s ratings are anything to go by, last night’s performance was Hojbjerg’s best since he starred for Southampton in their 2-1 win against Norwich City last December.
That performance will give the Dane a lot of confidence. Hojbjerg seems to have settled in well after an underwhelming start and, if he can continue the same for the remainder of the season, Tottenham’s chances of a top-four finish will increase considerably.
