Joe Hart was a big-name arrival at West Ham United, but the stats suggest he is only playing on reputation.

The red carpet was rolled out for Joe Hart when he arrived at West Ham United this summer.

An England international with over 70 caps, co-owner David Sullivan released a club statement saying that Hart was ‘the best goalkeeper he had worked with’ – when he was at Birmingham City in 2010.

But Hart’s performances for the Hammers so far have not stacked up. This ranking of goalkeepers by Premier League save percentage so far this season has the 30-year-old as the third worst shot-stopper in the division.

Burnley’s Nick Pope is the surprise leader, saving 83% of the shots at his goal, although, at five matches, he has played less games than the rest of the goalkeeper on the list.

David de Gea, Ederson, Hugo Lloris and Thibaut Courtois are positioned where one would expect – in the top seven – and this is the type of company that Hart should be keeping based on his reputation.

But instead the Manchester City loanee is down at the bottom, with a successful save rate of just 55%, a figure which only beats Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet among Premier League stoppers.

Already some Hammers fans are calling for Adrian, who replaced Hart for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup comeback victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, to be recalled in his place.

Based on this statistic, it is easy to see why Hart’s spot may be under threat – for club and for country.
