Aston Villa ace John McGinn was instrumental for Dean Smith’s side last season as they surged into the Championship’s top six and subsequently won the playoffs

Not only that, but this season the 24-year-old has hit the ground running in the Premier League, showing he can more than cut it at the top level – and at international level too.

McGinn’s goal for Scotland against Russia, his first at senior international level, means he has been directly involved in three goals in his five appearances for club and country this season.

The Scot played the full 90 minutes in each of Villa’s four Premier League games so far, scoring against Tottenham Hotspur and claiming an assist against Everton.

On top of that, McGinn picked up the Whoscored Man of the Match award against the Toffees and in the defeat at Crystal Palace, while his Whoscored rating is yet to drop below 7 this term.

The fact that McGinn is proving so impressive so soon while Villa are still finding their feet in the top flight after promotion, not to mention scoring for a struggling Scotland side, suggests that, as the season goes on and things click more for club and country, he truly could reach dizzy new heights.

Linked with a £50million move to Manchester United this summer (Scottish Sun), it wouldn’t be surprising if the £25,000-per-week ace (Spotrac) goes on to be linked with moves for much, much more than £50m next summer if he continues in the same vein.
