Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers face Sheffield Wednesday in a friendly this afternoon.

Sheffield Wednesday XI: Westwood; Hunt, Leeds, Pudil, Reach; Wallace, Jones, Bannan, Boyd; Hooper, Rhodes

Rangers XI: Foderingham; Hodson, Alves, Cardoso, Wallace; Jack, Dorrans, Windass, Candeias, Miller, Herrera

Rangers have travelled South of the border for a friendly with Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

It is the Gers’ final pre-season outing before the nitty and the gritty of the Scottish Premiership season kicks off next weekend, with Rangers facing Motherwell.

The Ibrox club’s shock Europa League exit earlier this month meant that Pedro Caixinha had to call in a favour from his fellow Portuguese Carlos Carvalhal as his side need games.

And they are sure to get one this afternoon, given that Sheffield Wednesday have two successive top-six Championship finishes under Carvalhal.

But Rangers have shown signs of improvement since the Progres debacle, the Gers beating Premier League side Watford earlier this week after drawing 1-1 with Marseille.

Martyn Waghorn, who scored the winner in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Hornets’ training ground, is left out of the first XI as summer signing Eduardo Herrera continues alongside Kenny Miller up front.

Elsewhere, Graham Dorrans and Ryan Jack, who joined from Norwich and Aberdeen respectively, start in midfield, with Daniel Canedias also included in attack. Niko Kranjcar scored a fine free kick against the Ligue 1 outfit eight days ago, but he is only given a spot on the bench.

Meanwhile, Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso start in defence.
