Tottenham Hotspur saw Lucas Moura make an instant impact against Manchester City on Saturday evening, and many are now wondering about his role.
The Brazilian was introduced as a substitute in the second half with Spurs 2-1 down, and he headed home Erik Lamela’s corner with his first touch to salvage a point for Tottenham.
Moura was surprisingly left out of the starting line-up, but has done himself no harm by getting on the scoresheet in yet another big game.
The former Paris Saint-Germain ace is becoming something of a big game player, having scored a number of important goals during his time with the club.
From the equaliser at Barcelona to send Spurs through from their Champions League group last season to the hat-trick against Ajax in the semi-finals of the competition, Moura has contributed heavily.
He even scored the first hat-trick at Tottenham’s new stadium, and scored a superb brace to help smash Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford last term.
With his latest big goal in mind, Spurs posted a video on Twitter of all of those big Moura moments, and Tottenham fans have been replying to the post.
Some believe that if Spurs think so highly of Moura, then it’s time Mauricio Pochettino put him in his starting XI – but others note that he’s best as an impact substitute thanks to his pace and movement.
The problem is that Pochettino’s decision is about to become even more difficult. Forward Son Heung-min is back from suspension this weekend, meaning he will be able to return to the side to partner Harry Kane.
The South Korean may need to pick up match fitness, but he is a Pochettino favourite, and with the Spurs boss preferring a diamond with two strikers right now, Son may well be preferred to Moura – despite fans praising the Brazilian.
