It’s taken quite a while, Liverpool have finally announced their capture of Marcelo Pitaluga.
The 17-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper is now officially a Liverpool player following a lot of speculation, with UOL reporting exactly a month ago that a deal had been struck, but there had been no announcement by either them or Fluminense.
Some eagle-eyed Reds fans thought they spotted the towering figure at Melwood last week.
And they were correct, it seems, as the Premier League champions confirmed their acquisition of him this afternoon.
Pitaluga has already began training with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team group [official website] and here’s how Liverpool supporters reacted on Twitter to his arrival.
Will he be replacing Adrian anytime soon? Probably not.
The Spaniard had a shocker in the 7-2 mauling by Aston Villa this past weekend, having already made high-profile errors in their Champions League elimination by Atletico Madrid last season.
There’s a massive question mark over the former West Ham United stopper, with Alisson injured right now, but even still it’s unlikely that Klopp will be throwing Pitaluga in at the deep end.
