Lee Dixon has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur need to either ‘put up’ with the type of football Antonio Conte is producing or ‘get on his back’.

The Highbury legend added that Tottenham, because of their style of play over the years, are stuck in between the pillar and the post regarding Conte’s current style.

It’s not pretty to the eye, it wasn’t last season when they pipped Arsenal to Champions League football, but it has become a big talking point, nonetheless.

Perhaps the noise is a lot quieter when you are winning games and Conte is a genius at just getting the results and getting the job done.

But when the defeats start hitting the table, and they have done during the past week, then the moans and groans can be heard a lot more.

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon feels that if Conte is backed by those in the boardroom, then there will be ‘progress’, as he told Premier League Productions (23/10/22 at 23/10/22 at 7:00 pm).

“You know what you are going to get from Conte,” said Dixon. “And how much time he needs. They all brought into him because of his name, reputation and his record.

“As fans looking at the way they play, you have a choice, you either put up with it or start getting on his back when things aren’t going well – Conte is a winner, but because of Tottenham’s style of play in the past, they are caught right in between the pillar and the post, for me. They are third, so it’s all of a sudden, what do you want them to become?

“He knows, if given another couple of windows, then there will be progress – if you look at the Tottenham subs against Newcastle, I know he has a few injured, there is only Moura going to come on and do anything. I think he needs more.”

IF CONTE DELIVERS A TROPHY

That’s what it is all about and that’s what the Spurs fans have been craving for, that all-important trophy.

It could be argued, if Conte does what he does best, then fans won’t care how it comes about and they will have another trophy to their name.

But the same could have been said for the previous trophy-laden coach in the north London dugout – Jose Mourinho.

He was one week away from possibly winning the League Cup against Manchester City, only for Daniel Levy to boot him out of the door.
