Liverpool supporters will have been proud to see Kamil Grabara‘s performance on Wednesday night.
The Polish goalkeeper’s name would’ve stood out to fans of the Anfield outfit if they had seen the Manchester City clash in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola’s side hammered Copenhagen 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium last night and, on the opposing side, was the one-time Liverpool goalkeeper.
And despite the scoreline, Grabara actually produced a brilliant performance.
If not for the 23-year-old it would’ve been defeat by a far more gruesome margin for the Danish outfit.
According to WhoScored, Grabara, who spent five years on Liverpool’s books, clocked an overall rating of 7.13 which, given the scoreline, illustrated that the result was by no means a reflection on him.
The Pole produced a number of excellent saves to deny City players – including Erling Haaland, who wound up with a brace nevertheless – and overall those who coached him at Melwood will have been proud.
That’s because Grabara seems to be blossoming into a fine young goalkeeper and, at 23, the ceiling for improvement is massive.
Liverpool sold him for only £3 million in 2021 [The Athletic] and some at Anfield might be regretting that figure, given that he has just showcased his abilities on a massive stage and could fetch a far bigger sum at some point in the future.
The Merseysiders do have a 20 percent sell-on clause, engineered by Michael Edwards during his stint as their director of football, and although that’ll be some consolation if he ever secures a big-money transfer, it may not soften the blow entirely.
