Liverpool fans could be forgiven for forgetting all about Luis Alberto.

After all, the Spanish midfielder managed only nine Premier League appearances in a Liverpool jersey prior to being sold to Lazio back in 2016.

But now aged 29, it’s definitely fair to say that despite flopping at Anfield, Alberto has really come into his own over in Italy.

This season, in particular, he is dazzling in a massive way.

Major improvement

Still at Lazio, Alberto, with six assists, has created more goals for anybody in Serie A this season with the exception of two players – Hakan Calhanoglu and Nicola Barella, both of whom have set up seven.

In addition to that, he has created 16 chances and scored two goals, which isn’t a glowing statistic, but it’s as many as any Liverpool midfielder has in the Premier League this season.

Thiago Alcantara, for instance, is lauded by Reds supporters – and for good reason because the former Barcelona player is absolutely brilliant.

However, with one goal, one assist and one big chance created across 11 Premier League games this season, Thiago is getting destroyed statistically by Alberto.

Jurgen Klopp sold him for only £4.3 million in 2016 and although you can’t argue Liverpool made a mistake, by virtue of their success under the German, you could make an argument that Alberto has been completely transformed since quitting the Merseyside outfit.
