If you’re a Leeds United supporter, the rumours about Alex McCarthy potentially joining Manchester United are good news.

According to 90 Min, the Red Devils are reportedly interested in signing the Southampton goalkeeper.

With Manchester United loaning out Dean Henderson, they need a replacement and McCarthy – who once had a loan at Leeds – seems to be a viable candidate.

The reason why this is such good news for the Elland Road outfit is because if it happens, it’ll take their eyes off Whites stopper Illan Meslier for this summer at least.

Erik ten Hag won’t be signing more than one goalkeeper to challenge David de Gea this summer.

On Friday, The Athletic reported that the Dutch manager was interested in bringing the young Leeds glovesman to the Theatre of Dreams.

Being only 22 and already proven in the Premier League, it’s probably no secret that the Frenchman won’t be spending his entire career in West Yorkshire.

He will almost certainly be graduating to bigger and better things.

But having already lost Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips this summer, selling another first-team regular in one window is less than ideal for Leeds.

However, if Manchester United are preoccupied with McCarthy then having them out of the equation, a global powerhouse of a club, can only be a good thing.
