Tottenham have endured a miserable 2023 so far amid plenty of chaos in N17 – now, an update involving Kieran Trippier rubs salt in the wounds.

Spurs fans have been forced to watch on helplessly as Antonio Conte ripped into Tottenham several times before Daniel Levy finally sacked him, before Fabio Paratici also left after finding himself banned by FIFA for false accounting.

Chaotic is an understatement, and as aforesaid, a piece of news about Kieran Trippier sheds new light on Tottenham‘s incompetence.

What’s the story?

Well, Tottenham sold Trippier to Atlético Madrid in a £20m deal back in July 2019.

It came amid a difficult period for the England international in north London, with supporters getting on his back following a string of underwhelming displays – as admitted by the man himself.

Nevertheless, there was no denying that Trippier was among the better right-backs in England, something he has now proven as he earns a nomination for Premier League Player of the Season.

The 32-year-old has propelled Newcastle into third thanks to his consistently brilliant performances this term, scoring one goal while also providing six assists in 35 Premier League appearances.

Trippier is joined on the shortlist by Erling Haaland, Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane, Martin Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford.

Trippier success embarrasses Tottenham

In our view, it is quite humiliating for Tottenham to see Trippier shine for a side sat four places above them in the Premier League, while Daniel Levy has spent millions trying – and failing – to replace him.

Since the Bury-born defender left Spurs, Tottenham have spent £25.8m on Emerson Royal, £12.5m on Djed Spence and £39m on Pedro Porro, all of whom are nowhere near as talented as Trippier.

Of course, there is still time for the trio to become successful at Tottenham with time on their side, as none of them are older than 24.

However – at this moment in time – none are better than Trippier, and questions have to be asked about Tottenham’s squad management.
