Bordeaux striker Hwang Ui Jo will fly to England on Thursday before undergoing a medical at Premier League newcomers Nottingham Forest, as reported by L’Equipe.

Right at the start of August, Bordeaux coach David Guion admitted that he expected the South Korea international to leave the Matmut Atlantique ‘in the coming days’. It’s taken quite a bit longer than that. But Hwang is belatedly on his way out of 2009 Ligue 1 champions, albeit three weeks later than anticipated.

The 29-year-old has finally agreed to accept Nottingham Forest’s offer. Hwang will sign a three-year contract at the City Ground before joining Forest’s sister club Olympiakos on loan. The Seongnam-born centre-forward initially had concerns about moving to Greece for the 2022/23 season. Now, he appears to changed his stance.

Whether Hwang ever gets the chance to play in Garibaldi red is anyone’s guess. He’ll certainly have to wait at least another 12 months before he makes his debut for Steve Cooper’s play-off winners.

Scorer of 23 goals in the last two Ligue 1 seasons even in a struggling side, Hwang was left out of Bordeaux’s squad for the 0-0 midweek draw with Grenoble.

The 47-time international, who’s hit the target 16 times for his country, was reportedly holding out for a move to Forest’s Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves, however, appear to have turned their attention to alternative options. The men from Molineux have reportedly submitted a bid in the region of £12m for Stuttgart targetman Sasa Kalajdzic. The Bundesliga outfit want closer to £21 million (Sky Sports).

“There is initial interest from England,” Stuttgart director Sven Mislintat explains. “Wolves is one of them (looking at Kalajdzic). But it’s not really concrete at the moment, either on one side or the other.”

L’Equipe say that Nottingham Forest will pay £3 million up front for Hwang, rising to £4 million with bonuses.
