The FC Utrecht winger Gyrano Kerk has admitted that ‘anything could happen’ after he was linked with a move to Leeds United over the weekend.
Leeds are close to agreeing a £10 million deal for Kerk and hope to unveil him as a Whites player this week, according to The Sunday Mirror (September 27, page 74).
But his transfer was still not complete as of Sunday afternoon, when he started and scored for Utrecht in a 3-1 win against RKC Walwijk.
Kerk, in whom Cagliari and Hellas Verona have also been credited with an interest, was asked about his future afterwards.
And the 24-year-old told RTV Utrecht: “Anything can happen.
“I speak some English, but I can’t speak Italian!
“I don’t know what it will be yet. We’ll see, for now I’m still here anyway.”
Kerk added: “My mother doesn’t get very excited about those stories, no. But when I go, she gives me a big hug!”
The Dutchman scored or assisted 17 goals in 24 Eredivisie games for Utrecht last season, helping them to sixth in the standings.
And one of his teammates, who played for Leeds’ English rivals Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday, has accepted that Kerk is ‘ready’ for a move.
“I think Gyrano is ready, yes,” said Urby Emanuelson. “We talk about that a lot of course.

“His departure would be unpleasant for the club, but he has gradually become untenable.”
And Kerk responded: “A nice compliment from my teammate – I can put it in my pocket!”
Leeds have already added the Feyenoord winger Crysencio Summerville to their Under-23 squad this summer and have been linked with a move for another Netherlands-based player in the midfielder Teun Koopmeiners by The Telegraph.
