Well, Liverpool might not want to play against Taiwo Awoniyi again anytime soon.

The big Nigeria international proved problematic for Jurgen Klopp’s side on Saturday.

Awoniyi, who left Liverpool on a permanent transfer in 2021, is now at Nottingham Forest and the formidable hitman scored the winning goal against his former club yesterday.

It wasn’t only the goal, but most of what the hosts created at the City Ground stemmed from Awoniyi, who left Anfield to join Union Berlin over a year ago without playing a senior game under the German manager.

And another former Liverpool player has summed up Awoniyi on Instagram.

Sheyi Ojo, released by the Merseysiders this past summer, sent him a one-word message which simply read ‘Serious’, accompanied by a fire emoji.

Awoniyi spent virtually all of his Liverpool career out on loan, at an array of different clubs due to work permit problems.

When he finally did earn a work permit, he was sold to Union Berlin for only £6.5 million and you have to say, the Reds might regret selling him for that paltry fee.

Yes, he has only got three Premier League goals this season, but that isn’t a rotten return in a struggling team like Forest and it’s very possible that he’ll score a lot more between now and the end of the campaign.

Awoniyi haunted Liverpool on Saturday, but he might be constantly reminding the Merseysiders what they missed throughout the campaign.
