Marco Asensio will reportedly sign a new contract with Real Madrid despite interest from Premier League clubs and the likes of Newcastle United even making contact with the Spanish international.
According to Marca, the winger is close to signing a contract renewal with Real Madrid that will seemingly end all transfer speculation on Asensio’s future, with the attacker, in recent months, being heavily linked with a move away from the Spanish capital, with Newcastle one of the clubs reportedly interested.
Mundo Deportivo recently claimed that Eddie Howe’s side had made contact to sign Asensio, with FC Barcelona, Arsenal and Liverpool also in the mix to land the Madrid star. However, it appears that Los Blancos have now made the decision to keep the forward beyond this season.
The decision is quite a strange one when you dig into the numbers, though. Asensio has made just one start for Madrid all season, with the rest of his 13 appearances all coming from the bench as Carlo Ancelotti prefers Brazilian youngsters Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo out on the wings, with Federico Valverde asserting himself as a presence in attack, as well.

Indeed, as per Marca, a change in the player’s attitude has seemingly played a big role in Asensio’s pending contract renewal with Madrid. And for the likes of Newcastle, missing out on the 26-year-old is quite a blow given how wasted the forward might become with Real.
Asensio was once one of Madrid’s best players. And whilst the attacker has fallen quite some way since his best days, there’s no denying that the Mallorca-born superstar has the quality to start for any club in Europe, and the winger could have become a marquee signing for Newcastle.
Asensio could soon regret signing Real Madrid contract

Staying at Madrid is hardly a bad decision for any player, but for Asensio, given the success the winger has already enjoyed in the Spanish capital. the winger could soon regret not deciding to leave Los Blancos in search for another challenge in football.
With numerous UEFA Champions League and La Liga titles under his belt, Asensio could have taken his talents elsewhere rather than risk sitting on the Madrid bench for the coming years. And Newcastle could have been the perfect next club for the 26-year-old.
