New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic was left out of the squad on Thursday for ‘personal reasons’ after Nottingham Forest failed with a bid to bring the Serbia international to the Premier League.

With Steve Cooper’s side yet to come to an agreement to bring Dean Henderson back to the City Ground, Nottingham Forest are leaving nothing to chance, scouring the market for potential alternatives.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Forest submitted a bid for Arsenal’s Matt Turner today.

Ironically enough, another name on the club’s radar is the man who replaced Turner as New England Revolution’s go-to glovesman; Djordje Petrovic.

Forest failed with a £6 million bid earlier this week (The Athletic). And with the MLS window now closed for a few months, the Revs will be even more determined to hang onto Petrovic now.

Nottingham Forest need a goalkeeper

Reportedly frustrated by his current employers for rejecting Forest’s proposal, Petrovic was conspicuous by his absence as New England Revolution took on Mexican outfit Atlas on Thursday.

But assistant coach Richie Williams is optimistic that any potential disagreements can be put to one side until the New Year.

“Our conversations with Djordje have been great,” Williams tells MassLive. “Djordje is a great goalkeeper and person. We will take it day by day.

“Djordje will hopefully be ready (to return to the XI) in the coming days. And then we will make the best choice of goalkeepers for our next game, and who we think will perform best for us in goal.”

Petrovic, labelled ‘good enough to start for Manchester United and Chelsea’ by legendary American shot-stopper Brad Friedel, is under contract until 2025.

“We are sympathetic with Djordje,” Williams adds. “We are doing what’s best for both sides; (for) Djordje and the future.

“We are working with Djordje day by day. He has been training and we will keep moving forward with that.”
