Tottenham Hotspur announced this morning that Japhet Tanganga’s season is officially over.
The 22-year-old has been sidelined with a knee injury in recent weeks.
And today, Tottenham confirmed that the defender has undergone surgery on the problem and, as a result, will not play a part in Spurs’ end-of-season fixtures.
Looking beyond that, though, it’s difficult to see the Hackney-born powerhouse playing for the North Londoners again.
Finished in N17?
Tanganga was linked with a move away from the Lilywhites during the January transfer window, with AC Milan among those interested in signing the Hotspur Way graduate.
That’s because the player himself hasn’t adapted well to Antonio Conte’s reign at Tottenham.
Not that Tanganga has struggled for game time, but he did struggle to replace the then-injured Cristian Romero and Conte and Fabio Paratici are certainly going to bolster their centre-back position during the summer transfer window.
If Tanganga is back training with Spurs by September, which seems realistic, then it would make sense for all parties if he were to leave.
The youngster will return to find himself way down the pecking order under the Italian manager and honestly, despite his potential, he won’t be getting the regular minutes that he needs to continue his development.
January 23, the 2-0 defeat by Chelsea, was his most recent outing for Tottenham – and it could be his last, too.
