Arsenal could’ve done with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on Wednesday night.
The Gunners surrendered a five-match winning streak by losing 2-0 to Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium.
Prior to Diogo Jota opening the scoring, Alexandre Lacazette missed a gilt-edged chance that Aubameyang could and potentially would’ve scored in his sleep.
And in that moment, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta might’ve lamented not having a killer like Aubameyang up front.
Although the North Londoners have been doing fine since terminating the 32-year-old’s contract in January, the Gabon international is also thriving at Barcelona.
On Thursday night, he scored the winner as the Spaniards won 2-1 at Galatasaray to reach the next round of the Europa League.
In doing so, Aubameyang now has seven goals since joining the Primera Division outfit – and for context, Arsenal have only scored 10 times as a team in the same period.
For a while it looked like the Londoners were concretely a better side without their talisman and captain, as impossible as that would’ve seemed a few years ago.
But Lacazette’s blunder on Wednesday, combined with Aubameyang’s ever-increasing tally, mean that Arteta dumping him remains a massive gamble.
