The young midfielder Jordan Stevens was a stand out for several Leeds United supporters who watched the Whites Under-23s’ defeat against Stoke on Monday.

Leeds suffered a 4-0 defeat to the Potters’ kids, in which the new United recruit Joe Gelhardt missed a penalty.

But it was not all doom and gloom for some, who thought that Stevens, in particular, caught the eye.

Stevens, who has appeared on six occasions for the Leeds first team, could be on his way out of Elland Road this week.

The Swindon Town manager Richie Wellens told BBC Radio Wiltshire at the weekend that the 20-year-old was ‘close’ to joining his side – although it is unclear if that will be a permanent or temporary move,

“Jordan Stevens, we’re very close to,” he said. “I think we’ve more or less done it. Leeds have got an issue in terms of releasing him at the moment because they’re trying to get someone in. And Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t let players out very easily. He is the head of Leeds, and only (on) his say so will (they) release players.

“We’ve been after him for six or seven weeks. He will join us on 21st September.”

Stevens, though, signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract at Leeds as recently as last December, which suggests that a loan deal is more likely.

And the following Whites fans will hope that Monday’s U23s fixture will not be his swansong…
