Unless you’ve been living in a cave for the past month, you’ll know that Stan Kroenke tried to sign Arsenal up to the European Super League recently.
The likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham and the two Manchester clubs did the same, and their decision was met with near universal backlash.
Eventually, they all backtracked, including Arsenal, leaving Florentino Pérez – the man behind the Super League – furious.
The Spaniard mocked Chelsea fans for protesting outside Stamford Bridge, and also mocked Liverpool for their 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the 2018 Champions League final.
In that respect, he surely isn’t too happy with Arsenal either.
Now, that could potentially impact the club’s hopes of signing Martin Ødegaard on a permanent basis.
Pérez owns Real Madrid, Ødegaard’s parent club.
Now Arsenal have upset him, the 74-year-old could easily refuse to do business with the Gunners entirely.
Failing that, he could simply add millions to the Norwegian’s transfer fee.
That would surely devastate Arteta, who is desperate to make the deal permanent according to the Evening Standard.
Simply put, he isn’t going to do Arsenal any favours after they contributed to the downfall of his Super League, in our view.
If Ødegaard can’t secure a permanent move to the Emirates Stadium, it would be a shame for everyone involved.
In his case, the 22-year-old is seeing plenty of first-team action in north London, something he didn’t always receive at Real Madrid.
Furthermore, Arsenal would also be hit hard, as Ødegaard has shone since arriving in January.
Norway’s captain has scored big goals against Tottenham and Olympiacos, while he ran the game in Arsenal’s 3-3 draw against West Ham.
If Kroenke’s decision to pull out of the Super League, angering Pérez in the process, truly has dented Arsenal’s Ødegaard hopes, it would be a real shame.
