Leeds United have not played Premier League football since 2004, and Stan Collymore does not want Aston Villa to suffer a similar fate.
Stan Collymore has tweeted Aston Villa chairman Tony Xia, suggesting that he needs to appoint a manager with a proven track record.
Di Matteo’s spell at Villa Park was very short, and he was able to lead the Midlands side to just one Championship victory.
Villa lost 2-0 against Preston North End last weekend, and that defeat turned out to be costly for Di Matteo.
Villa are now on the hunt for a new manager to take over, and Collymore feels that his former side need to appoint someone with Championship experience.
Collymore has also warned that Villa could turn into another Leeds United if Xia does not get his next appointment right.
Leeds have not played Premier League football since 2004, despite being one of the biggest clubs in English football.
Villa have invested heavily to try and ensure they get back into the top flight as quickly as possible, but they are already playing catch up. Villa are currently in 19th place in the Championship table – and are already 10 points behind the play off places.
