Aston Villa will be playing Premier League football next season.

Dean Smith the manager

Aston Villa beat Derby 2-1 at Wembley Stadium today, securing promotion back to the Premier League after a three year hiatus.

The Villans were the best team in the Championship over the last quarter of the season, and they fully deserve their promotion.

Dean Smith’s side went into today’s game as clear favourites, and their superiority told from very early on.

Anwar El-Ghazi and John McGinn scored Aston Villa’s goals before Martyn Waghorn struck for Derby with just 10 minutes remaining, but it was to no avail, as the west Midlands outfit cruised to victory.

The hard work will start now for Villa, however.

Staying in the Premier League will not be easy, but if they keep the nucleus of their team, and add three of four top quality players, they will have every chance of enjoying a successful campaign in the top flight next term.
