Stan Collymore suggests that Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid would be a better option than Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel for Liverpool.

Kasper Schmeichel is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and has played quite well for Leicester City this season.

Leicester, who won the Premier League title last season, may have struggled this campaign, but Schmeichel has been pretty consistent and can hold his head high.

Back in February, The Daily Star reported that Liverpool and Arsenal would battle to secure the services of the Denmark international in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool could do with a goalkeeper of Schmeichel’s ability, as neither Loris Karius nor Simon Mignolet has looked particularly great between the sticks this season.

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore, though, believes that Atletico Madrid custodian Jan Oblak would be a better option for the Merseyside outfit.

Collymore has praised the 24-year-old Slovenia international goalkeeper, who is one of the best in his position in Europe.

“Jurgen Klopp has a big problem with his goalkeepers because I don’t think Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet is up to the job,” Collymore wrote in The Mirror.

“Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel would be perfect for them but the Foxes would surely demand a king’s ransom for him.

“I would therefore go for the best shot-stopper I’ve seen in Europe – Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid.

“The big Slovenian has presence, is tall and athletic, and would inspire confidence in those in front of him. His arrival would turn Liverpool from top-four contenders into title hopefuls.”

Oblak is a very good goalkeeper and would be a great signing for Liverpool, but would the 24-year-old be open to the idea of leaving Atletico? The Madrid outfit regularly challenge for the La Liga title and play in the Champions League.
