Popular football pundit Stan Collymore says that Everton should keep faith in their manager Ronald Koeman despite a poor start to the season.
Everton have won just once in their last six games in the Premier League, and find themselves 16th in the league table at the moment.
The Toffees have spent big this summer, and better performances are expected of them. Koeman’s position at the club has come under scrutiny, but Collymore urges Everton fans to keep faith in the Dutchman.
Collymore says that it was naivety on Everton’s behalf not to sign a direct replacement of Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool striker says that Lukaku wanted to leave and Everton got a good amount for him.
He adds that Everton are lacking confidence at the moment. He has urged the Everton fans to stick with Koeman during these tough times.
Collymore says that Everton fans understand that Koeman has brought in good players, and that there is one piece of the jigsaw that they are missing at the moment.
In any case, the new manager, if appointed, cannot sign a striker before January.
“What I would say to Evertonians is that they should get behind Koeman and stick with him,” wrote Collymore for The Mirror.
“They are a very patient bunch of supporters and I know they like Koeman. They appreciate the players he has brought in even though they know there is one piece of the jigsaw that they are missing.
“Koeman is obviously a very experienced manager and, frankly, if they turned on him and the board decided to make a change then the new boss couldn’t bring in a new striker until January.”
