Steve McClaren was sacked by Derby for the second time recently.
Birmingham manager Gary Rowett
Derby County are on the hunt for a new manager for the second time this season after sacking Steve McClaren yet again. The former England boss started his second stint with Derby in fine form but has struggled recently and the Rams are no longer looking likely to have any say in the play-off hunt.
One man who has instantly been mentioned as a potential replacement is Gary Rowett. He is still looking for a new job after his untimely sacking by Birmingham City and is of course a former Derby player.
Stan Collymore
If they did appoint him, one man with a smirk on his face will be former player Stan Collymore.
The former striker, who is not popular with the Derby support because of his links to Nottingham Forest, sent out a tweet in December when Rowett got the unceremonious boot at St Andrews suggesting Derby will regret appointing McClaren. It got short shrift from Rams fans, but he is now revelling in its relevance:
Derby fans may not appreciate Collymore’s smugness, but not many of them would disagree that Rowett could be the perfect replacement for McClaren if the club are to go forward with success.
