Stan Collymore has written in CaughtOffSide that Unai Emery’s Aston Villa should sell Ollie Watkins to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the summer transfer window if they could.

The former Villa striker believes that if Arsenal come for Watkins, then the Villans should ask for £40 million or £50 million for the English striker.

The pundit thinks that Arsenal like the 27-year-old England international striker and have scouted him.

There has been recent speculation that Arsenal are interested in signing Watkins from Villa in the summer transfer window.

Stan Collymore on Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa to Arsenal rumour

Collymore wrote: “I’d let Ollie Watkins leave Aston Villa. He’s been linked with Arsenal quite a few times so it certainly seems they like him. I’m sure they’ve scouted him a bit too.

“I think Watkins is a good player, but I don’t see him as the type of 25-goal-a-season striker that Villa needs.

“I think he lacks a bit physically too so if Christian Purslow could negotiate a fee around £40m or £50m, I’d be snapping Arsenal’s hand off.

“That money should then go into buying a younger, more physical number nine who is likely to guarantee you at least 20 goals a season.”

Gunners should not bid

In our view, Arsenal can get a better striker than Ollie Watkins in the summer transfer window.

If the Gunners are aiming to establish themselves as regular challengers for the Premier League title and challenge in the UEFA Champions League, then they should get world-class players.

Watkins is not in that bracket.

Yes, the Englishman is a very good player, but would he really take the Gunners to the next level?

No, he won’t.

Watkins has scored 33 goals and created 13 big chances in 95 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
